The Husband and I just spent a week in the gorgeously green British Columbia. We stayed in Burnaby which was a perfect location to anywhere we wanted to go. We were just minutes from downtown Vancouver and within driving distance to some of the most beautiful parks.
We spent our vacation visiting downtown, Stanley Park, the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, family in Chilliwack and Victoria. All these tourist spots are on all the top 10 lists of things to do in Vancouver, but one thing that wasn’t on all the lists was the Richmond Night Market. I stumbled upon a website for the 13th annual night market and instantly got excited. I LOVE MARKETS!
The Husband was game for a visit, and I figured if anything we would just go to eat. This years market is open from 17 May through 14 October, and only on the weekends. If offers a wide array of food venders (mostly Asian foods), carnival games for the kids, and other vendors selling the usual “flea market” type things, i.e. socks, knock off glasses, etc. There is a $2 entrance fee but parking is free.
I think I loved this market so much because it reminded me of my favorite night market in Pattaya, Thailand called the Thepprasit Night Market. Take a look at all the great food pictures. We got a lot of little bites so we could try all the good foods. At one point, I was going to buy a friend a little gift for her upcoming birthday and the Husband said, “Do you want to buy Mei a gift or do you want to eat more?” Sorry, Mei, hahah!
Come hungry and bring a full wallet. Prices for our nibbles ranged from $3.50 for a street sized taco to $6 for some chicken wings to $7.50 for 3 skewers. Though this market reminded me of those hot days in Thailand, eating my way through the local markets…the prices were not SAME SAME!
If you ever find yourself in British Columbia in the summer, check out this night market. It was a lot of fun and A LOT of great food.
Cheers and happy eating!
